Thousands of queer New Yorkers depend on The Center and its life-saving services and programs, especially during the current crisis. While The Center works to meet the outpouring of need from the community, its traditional sources of income are threatened. All proceeds of the Queer Art Benefit Sale, organized by Matías Alvial and facilitated by GAYLETTER, will support The Center, the heart and home for the LGBTQ+ community in NYC.
Prior to Covid-19, over 12,000 meetings and events happened every year, normally attracting about 6,000 visitors a week. The Center has responded to this crisis quickly and effectively, moving its services to virtual formats, including mental health and group counseling, substance use treatment, ESL classes, HIV support services, insurance enrollment. Learn more about it here.
This sale will present the opportunity to purchase works donated by more than 35 queer artists. The response from these artists, allowed by the common queer experience, reflects the inspiring sense of responsibility to care for our chosen family. The sale starts May 21st, 2020 and will end June, 1st 2020, just in time to celebrate Pride month!
